Earl “The Twirl” Cureton (66), who among other things won two NBA titles, has died.
Cureton served as an ambassador for the Detroit Pistons for the past ten years, and died “unexpectedly” on Sunday morning, according to the club. No further information was revealed after the death.
– Earl was one of the most generous, positive, caring people I've ever known, says Pistons owner Tom Gores.
-We are all in pain. He was a great teammate, a tough competitor, a winner, and a wonderful human being. “He will be greatly missed,” says former Cureton teammate Isiah Thomas in a statement.
Cureton played professional basketball for 17 seasons (674 NBA games) and won an NBA title with the Pistons in 1983 and with the Houston Rockets in 1994.
