Prince Harry, Duchess Meghan and her mother were reportedly hounded by paparazzi for more than two hours on Tuesday. No one was hurt, but it must have been close.
A spokesman for the prince said on Wednesday that the episode could have ended in disaster, and that it has led to several near misses.
The episode took place after the couple attended an award ceremony in New York on Tuesday. There must have been up to several cars with dirty windows that drove after the couple and Megan’s mother Doria Ragland.
– This merciless chase lasted for more than two hours and resulted in several near misses, the spokesman told Reuters, including with cars, pedestrians, and two police officers.
With the help of the police, the couple and Megan’s mother manage to flee to a taxi and sneak away from the scene. New York City Mayor Eric Adams called the paparazzi’s behavior “reckless and irresponsible.”
No one was injured, but the couple must have been very shaken. No one has been arrested in the case.
Perhaps the car chase brought back bad memories for Prince Harry. His mother, Princess Diana, was chased by paparazzi in Paris when the car she was riding in crashed into a tunnel wall on August 31, 1997. Diana died in the accident.
