On Monday, news came of Manchester City’s victory in the Erling Braut Haaland match. Haaland will be a City player this summer, and he should have already passed the medical, which is an examination carried out in Belgium. The agreement is expected to be officially confirmed this week.
Haaland has a €75m buyout clause, but the total package to move the Norwegian to the Etihad Stadium will be more than €250m. Already in April, Jurgen Klopp said that Liverpool would never be fit to take part in the 21-year-old’s match, and shook his head at the said amounts.
Ahead of Liverpool’s match against Aston Villa, Klopp was asked about Braut Haaland’s transfer deal.
“I signed a new contract knowing that City will not stop their development,” Klopp told Sky Sports.
It is not up to the city to decide whether we can be satisfied or not. It’s about us and what we can achieve, says Klopp.
Set a new level
He believes this is a transition that will set a new standard.
– We play against all the other teams, yes, but if Erling Haaland goes there he won’t weaken them, that’s clear. We know people are now talking about money, but this is a transfer that will set a new level, let me describe it that way, says Klopp.
According to the Telegraph It was Real Madrid and City that ultimately stood between Haaland, who was not interested in Manchester United. Chelsea hasn’t been an option either, due to the uncertainty surrounding the ownership in recent months.
Haaland will sign a five-year contract at the federation that ties him to the club until the summer of 2027.
