But do you really need a seat cushion with a battery in it?

In cold periods, warmth is absolutely necessary to feel comfortable on the go. There are now a number of clothes and appliances that have battery-powered heating cables installed.

We have already tested several garments that have this solution; Gloves, sweaters, hats and shoe soles.

But there are also other types that gradually got the same solution. One of these is a seat cushion from Heat Experience – which costs you just under 500 kroner online.

We’ve now brought a couple of these with us on a trip to see if it actually makes sense to replace your regular seat cushion.

Often you attach the seat cushion to a fairly rigid board that provides free space from the cold seat. But the Heat Experience seat cushion is very flexible, so you can roll them together perfectly compactly when you’re in your backpack. The panel is still insulated and covered with a tarp that keeps water at bay. So don’t get wet even if it warms the snow you’re sitting on.

The seat cushion isn’t exactly square, and you have an “extension” on one short side where you place the battery that will push the heating cables. The compartment is closed with a regular zipper which means the battery does not fall out easily. Something we tested, for example, with the first gloves from the company, where the corresponding mechanism was a Velcro strap that didn’t quite hold up.

When you turn on the heat, or adjust the amount of power you want to use, the same extension also has the Adjust button, which is similar to the button we’ve seen in previous products from the company. You must hold the button down for a while before turning on the product before you can adjust the heat with one touch. Red represents the highest energy level, white represents middle ground and blue indicates the lowest.

With the battery on board, the seat cushion weighs a lot more than the regular types. Our weight shows the weight goes up from around 120g to just under 250g with the battery. However, we have to say that this is not a deterrent heavy, although it is much larger than what you get with a classic foam base.

But this is not a seat cushion for you who want to save weight and possibly go on a multi-day trip. Then you might end up pulling out unnecessary empty batteries. Then other alternatives will be much better.

However, if you are taking a day trip with family or friends, where a large part of the trip involves sitting in nature around a campfire, the extra weight will not be an obstacle.

One of the things we quickly notice is that the seat cushion could have been bigger with an advantage. Now, I won’t draw any conclusions about people’s seating, but for the undersigned, the Heat Experience seating pads are hardly big enough. But then it must be said that I am the kind of person who casts a shadow on the sun. However, the size may be a little larger when you are, for example, sitting straight in the snow, where you would like to have a little “fold” to the sides.

But there is no doubt that the heating element provides a more comfortable experience than a traditional seat cushion. Especially with the protractor that crawls below zero, this is a bit like having heat in the seats in a car when you’ve just sat on cool leather seats.

So it is quite obvious that this seat cushion is in the utmost comfort when connecting the battery and heating cables. But it also won’t be useless if you run out of energy. It is completely insulated so you can still have a good experience.

Hot tools are rarely particularly cheap. It is also not this seat cushion if you intend to buy a copy for each family member who is going on a trip. 459 kr is too much for a seat cushion.

But if you first invest in a seat cushion with built in heating, we think the product meets the most important points.

The seat cushion is sturdy and well built, and works well without turning on the heat either. As the temperature rises, you get a very positive experience when you sit for longer with cooler temperatures around you. It simply helps to provide a very relaxing time around the fire before the walk.

The seat cushion is waterproof, and easy to fold compactly so it doesn’t take up much space in your backpack. However, they weigh a lot more than traditional seat cushions, but still 250 grams for the entire package isn’t a deterrent if you’re taking shorter trips.
