Tina and Carolyn Granum Valdres – NRK Inlanded – Local News, TV and Radio Warn People Against Spreading Rumors in Hate Letter Case

– We review the tips we receive. In addition, we are taking some questions in this case, primarily from some of the guilty parties, police prosecutor Drien Hansen tells NRK..

The background to what is happening now is the program Åsted Norge on TV 2. Last week they said they had information pointing to a specific culprit – a woman.

– We are trying to verify that information and try to find out if there is a basis for reopening these cases, says Hanson.

Police are yet to decide whether to reopen the already dismissed cases.

– We ask people to be careful

At the same time, the public prosecutor makes a clear recommendation to the people of Fagernes.

– The police are aware that there are many rumors about certain people – women and men. Rumors are always scary. So we ask people to be careful what they talk about, says Hanson.

He says that rumors will make the work of the police more difficult and innocent people may be hanged.

He is receiving support from Tina Granum, one of 15 people from Waltrud who have received anonymous hate letters. He and his wife, Caroline, have repeatedly granted media interviews and shared information about the case on social media.

– Starting to label someone in a population is dangerous. Everyone should exercise caution Tina says don't do any witch hunt.

Uncertainty and insecurity

Police had previously said they believed the same person had written the highly offensive text over the past 20 years.

Letters are always delivered or sent Anonymously.

All the recipients of the letters have connections to Valdres and, in particular, to the municipality of Nord-Aurdal.

The Granum couple received two hate letters from an unknown person. In the letters, they are called, among other things, “pussy liars” and “damn lesbians”.

Tina Granum says they're a little nervous right now because a settlement in the case is nearing.

It creates uncertainty and insecurity for us. We are somewhat ahead in this regard. Now we may be getting closer to finding out who it is. He says it is a bit scary.

Because you don't know the name Åsted Norge came up with, do you?

No, we don't know the name. But we have come up with a name ourselves. But we don't want to share it with others. He says it's just for his own safety and investigation.
