– This is a moment we’ve been really looking forward to. Now we are looking forward to welcoming the first guests, and then we hope to have a session and conference season with great activity,” says Hotel Manager Elaine Ravna.
Scandic Helsfyr reopened in November 2020 after a two-year complete renovation, but has since been operating normally only for short periods. During the pandemic, the authorities commissioned the hotel to house the quarantined inmates, before the war in Ukraine led to them becoming a hostel for fleeing Ukrainians. Now, nearly two years after the last reopening, the hotel is up and ready to resume normal operations.
central location
With 450 rooms, 1,250 beds, and 14 meeting rooms, Scandic Helsfyr is the largest of the chain hotels in Norway. The hotel is centrally located in Gamle Oslo, five minutes from the airport bus, subway and Oslo city centre. The modern facilities are suitable for tournament and conference guests as well as sports teams, concert goers and others who visit the capital.
For those who wish to explore the local area, bicycles can be borrowed from the hotel, and guests can also make use of the well-equipped gym. In the restaurant on the first floor, you can enjoy an award-winning Scandic breakfast, and at the à la carte Bistro Nordic, guests and visitors can choose from a menu focused on fresh, seasonal produce.
– We have high expectations for Bistro Nordic, and I believe both the bistro and bar will become a popular meeting point for guests and locals. You can come here for something good to drink, or for small and large plates with a Nordic twist, says Ravna.
long story
The hotel was built to host the Oslo Olympics in 1952, and since then it has undergone several expansions and renovations. This is the 19th Scandic hotel in the Oslo region, which has reopened at a time of high demand for overnight stays in the capital.
– In a period of great activity in the capital, it is great that you can open another 450 rooms. Scandic Hellsphere is a gem of a hotel that I think will meet both families and friends on vacation, and those who need courses and conferences in a modern setting, says District Manager Magny Jacobsen.
