– Now it's very slippery, people should drive carefully, says Gisle Svein, Operations Manager of the Eastern Police District.

On Saturday evening, Østfold has soap on E6.

Just before 10.30pm, a lorry left the road on the E6 in Sarpsborg by Solbergtornet and went onto the guardrail. Parts of the northbound road are blocked. Rescue operations are underway at the site.

Two people sat in the wagon train. Police said that both of them suffered minor injuries.

15 minutes later a traffic accident occurred a few kilometers north of Årum southbound. Two cars were involved – no one was injured.

Losing control

Slippery roads led to problems on the E6 at Moss, Ridge and Halton.

The first accident in Moss occurred on the southbound Årvolkrysset. The second took place at the northbound Rygge at the Halmstad crossing. Police said no one was injured.

At Svinesundsbrua northbound Halten, a car got stuck. The car skidded and the driver must have lost control.

– Can't drive car, driver has neck pain. Slippery conditions were also reported on the E6 at Halton, Sween said just after 9pm.

Soap-smooth slopes

Both accidents at Moss occurred on the slopes to the E6. The cars must have lost grip on the road and spun off the road and hit the guardrail.

There were six people in total, three in each car.

Sween is asking road users to slow down and drive according to conditions.

– It is not known that it is slippery in this length from Moss to Raige. The exit and entrance ramps to the E6 are often slippery when there is freezing rain and less traffic. People need to pay attention to that, says Swain.

Snow and sleet were expected in eastern Norway on Saturday. Meteorologists have issued a yellow warning from the Swedish border to Kongsberg and from Moss in the south to Hetland in the north.

Slippery roads even on a Sunday morning

In recent days, a low pressure system has brought stormy weather with strong winds, sleet and snow. The low pressure system is currently moving eastward and weakening, according to Per Egil Haga, an on-duty meteorologist.

– This will cause the cloud cover to melt and the temperature will drop. It goes from plus to minus degrees. Then the precipitation freezes into snow. Haga says that on roads with water, an ice pack will form and it won't be as easy to see.

It will be steady throughout the evening, night and Sunday morning. But on Sunday afternoon, the sun peeks out again in eastern Norway.

– It might be very cold tonight. Tomorrow the sun comes out and warms up when we go outside. Then it will be four or five degrees.

Like the police, the meteorologist is urging those traveling outdoors to be careful.

– Haga says sprinkle, salt and be a little careful when traveling by car and on foot.
