Sky Sports:
Manchester United reportedly made a bid for Jarrad Branthwaite last week, with the total fee set to be £43m (35+8).
An offer Everton was never likely to accept.
Everton believe Branthwaite belongs in the same price range as goalkeepers such as Gvardiol, Fofana and Maguire, all of whom have been bought for sums in excess of £75m in recent years. Often times, in situations like this, both parties end up somewhere in between.

Sky Sports journalist Dharmesh Sheth has now reported that United are discussing whether they should make another attempt to sign Branthwaite, and that United will move on to other transfer targets if Everton do not lower their asking price. Candidates include Marc Guehi (Crystal Palace), Lenny Euro (Lille) and Jean-Clair Todibo.
Everton may need to raise funds in light of the PSR regulations, and it is not unlikely that United would want Everton to think they are moving on for other transfer targets as well – but at the same time, it has also been suggested in the past that INEOS would not want to end up in the The kind of transfer saga that ends with United overpaying instead.
