2,200 train cars annually
Ferry dock Stoerstein is located in fv. 8690 on Kågen Island in Skjervøy Municipality. The ferry dock is part of the triple connection Storstein (Kågen) – Nikkeby (Laukøya) – Lauksundskaret (Arnøya). Most of the traffic is between Storstein and Lauksundskaret in Arnøya, where the salmon slaughterhouse and whitefish production are located, meaning approx. 2,200 freight trains travel the road annually. In addition, tourists on their way to Arnøya use the ferry.
The ferry service will operate throughout the construction period. Road users will notice the construction work, but they will be taken care of in the best way possible.
– It’s a major upgrade that we’ve been looking forward to getting started, says County Council Leader Christina Torbersen (AP). The ferry dock itself was completed in the fall of 2022 and put into operation on May 02, 2023 in connection with the arrival of the new ferries MF Sigrid and MF Tenna that operate the connection.
