Samsung's Galaxy S24 Ultra has a fast Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor and plenty of system cooling space for maximum performance. Now it turns out that mobile is better than we thought for PC gaming, and the emulator has the biggest credit.
Twice the power of the GPU compared to the second generation
Because there is an emulator called “Winlator” and it runs games locally. That's how much power is in the latest mobile chipset. Samsung's latest flagships can play games like Undertale, Far Cry, Bioshock, and Fallout 4. The advantage is that you can play mobile content on a TV using Samsung DeX. There's enough GPU power in the Qualcomm GPU to run Fallout 4 at low detail and sometimes hit 60fps at 720p.
Imagine how good the performance would be if this ran directly on hardware. For that reason alone, these are impressive numbers, making the mobile phone a go-to console.
A big drawback is that Steam often crashes with the Gen 3 chip – so the solution in many cases is GOG. There are also problems starting Skyrim, which can randomly crash. It's Mao. There is a lot that could be improved, and it would have been nice to have collaboration between so many major companies to make it easier to achieve emulation or ARM ports for mobile phones in this way.
