On Friday afternoon, a number of Holmen residents were notified via text message from the municipal Water and Sanitation Department.
– We will work on the main water connection to the Glomines Gate. This means that the water will be shut off on Monday 13 November 2023 from 08.00 to 15.00 the message says.
People are asked to fill the necessary water for this period.
– The color of the water can change slightly and the pressure decreases and may even disappear completely for periods. We recommend rinsing with cold water and cleaning the strainers at the tap points when the water returns.
The president explains
Fredrikstad Blad called chief engineer Tom Arild Hoedt on Wednesday and asked him why drilling was being done at the Glomens Gate. We learned that it was a leak at the Glommens/Holmegaten gate junction.
Not an issue to write about, so we thought at the editorial office. But the incident has developed since then, and is related to many other matters.
When an attempt was made to stop the leak, it was discovered that the shut-off valve had been damaged by the ravages of time. The facility here is about 100 years old.
-We then drilled down to the shut-off valve at the top of the Glomines gate. But it turned out to be in equally poor condition. We stopped the leak, and now no house is without water. But it is therefore necessary to do more work in this area, which is why we came up with this information, says Hoedt.
Work on a project
– Problems do not come as a surprise. This whole part of Holmen has a very old and poor facility. We are currently designing a completely new facility, which includes, among other things, a new raceway. This is a large and complex task, as we see everything in context. But when there are severe leaks like here, of course we have to repair the damage, even if we’re going back to build a completely new facility, Hoedt says.
