Cut off support

To be able to use WhatsApp on mobile in the future, you depend on having a smartphone with the following operating systems:

  • Android 4.1 or later
  • iPhone with iOS 12 or later

The change means that people with an iPhone 5 or iPhone 5c can no longer use WhatsApp on their devices. In fact, it has not been possible to install the app on these two models since last fall when WhatsApp cut off support for iOS 10 and iOS 11.

You will be notified

The WhatsApp writes on their support pages That if you have a device that is no longer supported, you will be notified directly in the app. You will then be prompted to upgrade your operating system or to a compatible device.

Please note that WhatsApp can only be activated with one phone with one device and to set up the app, you must be able to receive SMS or calls during the verification process. This is because WhatsApp cannot only be set up with Wifi.
