As we approach National Day of Storm Debris, the big question is what the weather will be like. Last year there was glorious sunshine and blue skies in many places in eastern Norway.
However, this year, there are other predictions, and we will return.
On Sunday, the Meteorological Department issued a yellow warning for thunder and lightning. There will be large local differences in severity, but the warning applies mainly to parts of eastern Norway.
– We expect unstable air masses in eastern Norway on Monday, says Per Egil Haga, a meteorologist working at the Meteorological Institute.

These are very exposed
On Monday, residents of eastern Norway can expect extensive rain activity that includes lightning and thunder. According to meteorologists, these areas are particularly at risk:
Østfold, Vestfold, Buskerud regions and Oslo and Akershus regions.
– The largest occurrence of lightning and thunder is expected from Monday afternoon, Haga says.
Even if the risk isn’t high in southern Norway, he can’t rule it out.

Lightning, thunder and rain
Asked where the worst will be, the meteorologist is careful not to say anything specific.
– When it comes to lightning and thunder it’s hard to say anything completely accurate. As of now, the areas south of Mjøsa seem to be the most exposed areas.
In addition to lightning and thunder, rain is expected across eastern Norway on Monday.
– Heavy rain is not known, but everyone in eastern Norway will get one or more showers in the afternoon, Haga says, and clarifies that rain may come earlier.

You should avoid this
The meteorologist on duty pointed out that lightning is a dangerous phenomenon.
So don’t plan to go boating or swimming on Monday, he says.
– Haga advises not to plan to play golf outside either.
Still uncertain
Back to Weather on National Day. Forecasts have kept us on the torture bench for the past few days, and many of us may still be wondering if we should keep an umbrella ready.
The meteorologist says there is still some uncertainty regarding the weather.
– Uncertainty lies in the low-pressure process that is moving fast enough. Haga says how the weather changes depends on how quickly the low pressure moves eastward.
It is the dynamics between low pressure and high pressure that creates the greatest uncertainty.

– can be challenging
One thing’s for sure, though: it’s going to get cold.
– It will be below ten degrees in the morning, so you should wear warm clothes. Additionally, Haga says, there will be strong winds, which can be a challenge for flag walkers.
The weather in eastern Norway looks set to improve further during the day.
– For Oslo’s part, it will be mostly cloudy in the morning and partly cloudy throughout the afternoon. According to the meteorologist, the temperature will reach 12-15 degrees in some places.
